Immaturity is the feeling of never being quite in place, truly at home. We envy animals in part because they, unlike us, all look so much at home in their natural habitat. Our tendency is to outgrow whatever we have, not only our natural habitat but also protective shells of our own making, from shoes and houses to ideas.
